A Day in the Life

This is the first in our ‘Day in the Life’ series, where you can get to know more about our team and what they do during their working day!

First to tell us more about themselves is Hayley, who is our support worker for the paediatric haemoglobinopathy team. Hayley works in Ocean Unit, but also works to deliver education in schools and much, much more!

Hayley Wiles
Name: Hayley Wiles
Job title: Paediatric Support Worker

I start work at 8:30, first of all I check my emails and phones for messages. Then I look at my job list for the day. If we have inpatients, I go to the ward to visit them, sometimes during ward round with the specialist nurses and doctors.

My job tends to vary on a daily basis – I can be completing a disability living allowance form in the morning then assisting with housing queries in the afternoon. Quite often I will also be giving teaching to schools around sickle cell or thalassaemia or liaising with schools around how they can support their pupils.

I really enjoy the variety my job gives me and of course meeting all of our lovely families
